Event Praise
“Matzah Ball Books', Noshy Boy and Shmutzy Girl sold really well at the 20th Annual Cherie Smith JCC Jewish Book Festival in Vancouver BC. The colorful, joyful, humourous children's books were a hit with both children and adults. What a great idea to introduce the expressive Yiddish language to children in a simple story and to add to that was Anne-Marie Asner's enthusiasm for presenting her books to the children with songs, games and quizzes. Her participation as a visiting author at your Young Authors' Tea was a highlight of our festival.”
- Reisa Smiley Schneider, Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver
“Anne-Marie Asner was a delightful new author to work with. Her children's books Noshy Boy and Shmutzy Girl appealed to both youngsters and adults. In addition to reading from her books, Anne-Marie involved the children in a series of fun learning activities which helped instill Yiddish words or phrases. Needless to say, each book that is purchased and shared within a family is helping to preserve the Yiddish language that so many of our grandparents grew up with!”
- Marilyn Weintraub, Jewish Federation San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys
“Author Anne Marie Asner did an interactive presentation with the students in grades 1-3. She featured her series of children’s books that use Yiddish language for some common terms and teach a lesson in the process. For instance: “Noshy Boy” who “noshes” (snacks) all the time learned to snack less and eat healthier food.
She called up children from the audience to read sections from her books. She taught the children a variety of simple Yiddish words and had the kids clapping, laughing and participating in the program. We provided pads of drawing paper and crayons for the children, she taught them how to draw her characters and make their own stories.
The program lasted an hour and the children left with smiles on their faces and urged their parents to buy copies of her books so she could autograph them. Many books where sold and she autographed them all."
It has been my pleasure working with Anne-Marie on this program and I highly recommend her to anyone who wishes to have an educational program for young children that is also entertaining.”
